Most TV newcomers struggle to get bit parts, but Kimberley Nixon got a dream start to her small-screen career when she landed the role of Sophy Hutton in Cranford.
"I didn't really process that I was working with people like Judi Dench and Imelda Staunton," says Nixon. "Judi was great because she had lots of games to pass the time on location when it was raining. There was one where you'd take a piece of newspaper and you'd have to tear it into a shape, like a car. Imelda Staunton's were brilliant, but Eileen Atkins never really got it."
