William Shatner's big break - Radio Times, 10 April 2008

"This TV drama [of Melville's novel Billy Budd] was filmed in Canada, and featured two great international names: Patrick Macnee and Basil Rathbone. It was a pleasure to work with such talented actors.

"I was fairly well established on the repertory scene by then, doing four or five performances a week. It wasn't a difficult shift to TV. It was all live back then, so I just tried to think of it as doing a performance before cameras instead of an audience."
