We're used to politicians taking a pop at
journalists, but there's little to top former
US Vice-President Dan Quayle, who in 1992
attacked the show Murphy Brown - starring
Candice Bergen as a TV journalist and
single mother - as the epitome of everything
that was wrong with American families. His
outburst didn't harm Bergen, though - she
won five Emmy awards for her role.
Bergen, 59, who pops up in tonight's
Will & Grace, is now a regular on
Boston Legal. Good to know there are still prime
roles on US TV available to older actresses.
