America remakes Simon Pegg's Spaced
America remakes Simon Pegg's Spaced
You only remember the failures: Coupling, for instance. Or Cold Feet. But when British comedies are remade for the US and do well, they do extraordinarily well. Some of the sitcoms America regards as beloved classics, like Sanford & Son and Three's Company are remakes of British originals: Steptoe and Son and Man about the House respectively.

So while The Office has been the only recent success, there is no sign that the US has stopped looking to these shores. The IT Crowd's American remake is in doubt but now Spaced, by Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, is to be remade for Fox TV.

The plot will keep to the core idea of two strangers pretending to be a couple in order to get a rent-controlled flat, though it's not known yet whether the show will keep the same title. Fox has ordered a pilot episode and it's to be written by Adam Barr, best known for episodes of Will & Grace, Desperate Housewives and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
