Heroes takes a tumble in US
Heroes takes a tumble in US
"Kill characters, save the show," suggests The Boston Herald newspaper, echoing what most critics are saying of this year's second season of Heroes. "There's nothing wrong with Heroes that a massacre couldn't fix."

Six episodes of the fantasy's new season, called Volume Two: Generations, have aired in the US and the show is faltering both with critics and in the ratings. While its opening episode last month ranked number ten in the ratings, a recent edition came in at number 30. And the much-hyped addition of Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell to the cast has been criticised: "I was expecting more," said TV Guide's Michael Ausiello. "Not from Kristen, but from Heroes. Maybe Veronica Mars spoiled me, but her dialogue lacked a certain electricity."

She's just one of four new cast members adding to what the LA Times calls an "overabundance of characters".

But Heroes creator Tim Kring says the criticism is inevitable after the show's success in the first year. "People tend to look at last season and see things in it that were not in it," he said helpfully. "We haven't deviated that much from last year's formula." But he does concede that the writers are finding it hard to judge how viewers are reacting: "It's hard to gauge how it's experienced, especially when we're ten episodes ahead of the audience."
