New-season TV: factual
They're back on their bikes: this time Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman are heading Long Way Down, and doing it for BBC2 instead of Sky One. This time they're planning to travel the 15,000 miles from John O'Groates to South Africa, by motorcycle. Undertaking one of the toughest motorcycle journeys in the world, the pair still find time to soak up African culture, from tribal dancing to Maasai survival techniques, all the while raising money for UNICEF.

For a truly global experience, though, just wait for The Power of the Earth on BBC2. Spectacular images and strong science are used to tell the story of our planet, including a rainstorm that lasted a thousand years.

There's a perhaps less frenetic journey ahead in Michael Palin's New Europe. He explores the once unseen section of Europe that was behind the Iron Curtain. Travelling from Albania to Estonia, with transport ranging from a barge to a donkey, Palin discovers the tastes, sights and sounds that make the region so culturally rich.

Then Alan Titchmarsh focuses squarely on the UK in The Nature of Britain (BBC1), revealing the, often surprising, relationship between our wildlife and the places that they live.

And in a completely different vein, there's Nigella Express on BBC2: Nigella Lawson speeds it up, cooking fabulous fast food and revealing brilliant time saving ideas.
