We honestly believed it was computer graphics but no, Max Headroom - named after a sign on a car-park barrier - was played by Matt Frewer. Initially a way of introducing pop videos, Max became the subject of a science-fiction thriller, 20 Minutes into the Future (1985), and then a failed US series.
