Popular fantasy adventure Primeval has been saved - three months after it was officially cancelled.

Stars Hannah Spearritt, Andrew Lee Potts, Jason Flemyng and more will be back for two more series, which will be screened on ITV1 from 2011.

ITV1 had dropped the series back in June saying that the channel's drama plans were to "focus on post-watershed production". The cancellation had come after ITV announced plans to cut costs and the show has been revived thanks to funding from other broadcasters, including digital channel Watch in the UK and BBC America overseas.

"We are really excited to be part of this truly innovative deal that guarantees the continuation of this fantastically entertaining series," said Watch's Paul Moreton.

ITV's Laura Mackie added: "The nature of this partnership will allow the show to maintain its high production values and deliver the fantastic programme that our viewers know and love."

Under the new plans, the new fourth series will be shown first on ITV1 in early 2011. Then Watch will screen repeats of that but premiere the fifth series later in the year before it too goes to ITV1.

Are you glad Primeval's been saved? Have your say here.

Great news, Primeval is one of the few family orientated programs around. It is wonderful to have a program that parents can safely watch with their children and neither side is embarrassed!

I'm really glad that this series has been resurrected - too many tv series draw you right in and then get axed leaving the poor audience up in the air.

Great that it will continue though we will have to wait awhile. Enjoying the repeats just now though I accept that Series 3 HAD to be different from the others. Miss Steven and Cutter though!

I love the concept of Primeval and I'm sure that other adult scifi addicts would too. Afterall we all watch Dr Who don't we? Mythical creatures and holes in space-time are just great fun.

Don't really care. Primeval was alright during the first series but the plot kept getting more and more childish and convoluted that I just can't bear to watch it. My brother likes it though so good news for him!
