For anyone who followed Katie Price and Peter Andre's ITV2 reality series, with its laboured sexual innuendos, shallowness and naked materialism, our worlds made a little less sense when the couple split up. The final sequence of Katie and Peter: The Last Chapter earlier this year showed a solicitous Andre help a limping, injured Price over the finishing line of the London Marathon. Then - nothing. Fade to black. All over.

But ITV2 knows when it's on to a good thing and has neatly exploited the split with an Andre special and a six-part Price series, What Katie Did Next, which starts next Thursday (27 August). The special, Peter Andre: Going It Alone, was 90 minutes devoted to the some-time singer and his efforts to administer the kiss of life to his long-dormant music career.

What Going It Alone proved was that, together and separately, the pair may not be as classy as an ITV2 diamond mine, but they are at least pure cubic zirconia. Going it Alone secured 1.72 million viewers, a stonking viewing figure for a digital channel that beat off all comers on the grown-up minority channels, including Future of Food on BBC2 and On Tour with the Queen on C4, both very worthy, both very dull.

Such a figure is a measure of the vice-like grip Price and Andre hold on the British popular imagination, in which Andre has risen from the bonfire of his burned-out marriage to become a damaged hero, while Price is the tarnished angel. (Women are always demonised in messy marriage splits. Discuss.)

Andre cut a decent, doe-eyed, biddable and uncomplicated figure, comically falling off stage during a personal appearance, and making a hash of a barbecue at his daughter's birthday party. He was anxious to please, like a puppy before it's trained. Bless him.

Remember when the Crazy Frog ringtone advert was in every commercial break, driving people, indeed, crazy with inane repetition? Well, Peter and Katie are the new Crazy Frog. Every time I turn on the TV, there they are, gurning and whining. I have no opinion about whether they're nice people or nasty people. I just have no interest in anything they do. None at all. I wouldn't even be writing this if they weren't on every ad break on ITV. I do not care about these people. I do not, have not, will never, ever be interested in any single thing either of them do. Is she nice? Don't care. Is he nasty? Don't care. Don't care, don't care, don't care. You could write out "I don't care" a billion times and you would still be underestimating my indiffence to this couple. I wish them no ill will. I hope they'll both find happiness and fulfilment in life - as long as they do in in private.

Iam rofl Alison at...anxious to please...I still think it's a P.R. stunt, I expect to see Max Clifford come out of the woodwork at some point.I'm not surprised the daft girl looks like a tarnished angel...goodness knows what her ex ma-in-law thinks when she sees her showing off her bum and other dubious looking bits. What a siily girl she is..Posh must be over the moon at her antics.I'm afraid it's all gone to poor Kate's head..goodness knows why..she's not got a bit of talent.I would love Posh n Dave to invite Pete over for a holiday....can you imagine the face on Kate !!! Incidentally..I heard that the beeb is going to re-run Rock N ROLL Hotel..do you happen to know when..now that's a prog. I really enjoyed.
