Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent

Britain's Got Talent always arrives like a circus train blowing into town. Ring the church bells! Hang out the bunting! Oddballs with groundless faith in their own talents are making fools of themselves! "Finally the wait is over!" Dec kept yelling.
The same panel of judges was back: Simon Cowell, still with the blinding teeth, the loo-brush hair, the winking; Amanda Holden with the hyperbole ("I just want to say that it was a complete privilege listening to that"); Piers Morgan looking suspiciously younger than he did in the last series.
But the show itself proved almost too much, its knockout moments stacked like timber. An Asian gent pulled a van along with his ear, a tubby father and son spoofed Riverdance, a pirate bloke chainsawed fruit, then a 60-year-old man did a "dance" act where he just swayed like a tree - until Ant and Dec dragged him off.
It was priceless TV, but it felt bloating, like eating chocolates too fast. (One act did just that, hilariously badly.) With its Easter parade of rub-your-eyes absurdities, it felt more suited to being sliced up into YouTube clips.
Two moments of discovery stood out. Street-dance act Flawless did a belter of a routine, only spoilt by the show's heave-inducing use of I Believe I Can Fly as they hugged friends afterwards.
And when a frumpy woman from West Lothian stepped up and announced she wanted to be the next Elaine Paige the audience tittered. Then they heard her sing. It was magical. The theatre erupted. Susan Boyle had her moment of glory - and an instant hit on YouTube.

Dear Susan, not winning the final should have no effect whatsoever on your future as a singer. You are quite simply unique, an exceptional pleasure to watch and listen to. I, like I'm sure many, many other people, will buy your music. I sincerely hope your CD will be on the shelves in the very near future. Mr Cowell, please hurry this along, you certainly won't regret it!
Thank you so much dear Susan for making a very good show, a SUPERB one!
Every success and happiness in all you do!!

Never mind selecting one act all the finalists were so good they could be the Royal Variety Performance, This selection of home grown talent beats anything I have seen on rececent RVPs.

I don't normally watch the prgramme - I think it generally panders to fairly low tastes (the flabby Greek father and son for example, what an embarassment) but it does oncover the occasional pearl. Susan Boyle is one such gem. She may not have style, but she has a wonderful voice. I hope she wins and has great success.

I think Susan has a very good voice and she is so natural she is a breath of fresh air. But I can't understand why she has been hyped up so much. She is no more sensational than the young opera singer in last year's final. In fact, hearing her as a guest on BGT, I thought that the young girl was actually better. II hope Susan does well but I think the over-hype could go against her.

I agree with mazY - Susan was excellent on her first audition but I thought she was weak in the semi final. She has a good voice, but not outstanding. Acts such as Diversity and Flawless are far more talented.

I'm astounded that some people decry the performance given by Susan Boyle. She's a breath of fresh air to the music scene. There are so many female singers who hide their lack of singing talent by their pathetic dancing, make-up, hair styles and semi-naked costumes.
Susan doesn't use any of those material things. She simply sings and sings better than any of them.
In fact to me, I find her appearance appealing because she doesn't attempt to make herself look like something she isn't.
Pity just a few people are too ignorant to see beyond a person's appearance and recognise the real talent they have.

As David said: Its priceless TV... I certainly wouldn't pay to see the rubbish staged there.
Susan Boyle was a rare ray of sunshine amongst a Shower of embarrassingly bad performances.
In my opinion, Saturday nights have never been so Badly represented by so many talentless British acts. 1/10

Susan Boyle Where has she been hiding ? and brilliant she had the courage to go for it at last !! Singing is a wonderful way to live your life and give so much pleasure to all Her voice is so clear and true and she has the build of Opera Singers who need the chest expansion to be so powerful Lets hope she will give much more pleasure to all ?
Some joy with all the depression going on in the world at present !

A pleasure to watch Susan. Congratulations and well done on such a wonderful performance. There is an old saying which is never judge a book by its cover. so so true in this case. All the best for the future Susan. You deserve it.

Yes of course Susan Boyle isn't the finished article and she'd probably struggle to even make the finals of the X Factor - but that's not the point. She's captured the imagination of millions around the world and, to loosely paraphrase Simon Cowell, she should ride that tiger for as long as it will carry her.

Susan made me cry....so ordinary,so normal and with a voice that knocked everyone out. Far, far , better than her idol , Elaine Paige....

Simon Cowell will be gutted that she isn't a stunner, so he could make even more money out of her. The leech.

I wish Susan Boyle all the very best especially after making the judging panel look such fools. She deserves her fifteen minutes of fame, but that's all it will be.

Just when we buried a reality tv "star" with absolutely no talent whatsoever, along comes this amazing woman with a voice, the gift of God. She is a breath of fresh air to us all and everything else pales into insignificance

Dear Mazy & Pearl,
What a couple of downers you are! Miss Susan Boyle, a lovely, ordinary lady, was an inspiration, just like Mr Paul Potts before her! Who knows where her talent will take her - but you have to admit this lady can REALLY sing! I'm sure a great many people will be wishing her well. Keep following your dream dear Susan, there's a very good chance of making it come true! How we would all like to say that about ourselves!

what a triumph for a lovely lady 1nice to see those looks of amazement on the judges faces...wonderful to hear your beautiful voice. You deserve all the accolades coming your way. You're a winner already for being yourself & sharing your voice with the world. Good luck to you for a very Happy life.

I have to agree with Pearl; Susan Boyle sang well but she was hardly world class.
It seems that on shows such as BGT, it is relatively easy for an act to shine extraordinarly brightly against a relatively dull background of other acts. However, when that same act is compared to established and trained entertainers, it is seen for what it really is. The act is also often derided by those 'in the business' who are actually qualified to recognise its failings.

The Susan Boyle episode demonstrated what is so bad about this progamme. Susan was treated with derision when she first came on the stage and with a complete lack of respect. And this is entertainment? She sang well but I have heard this song sung far better. No doubt she will produce an album in due course which will do very well and then sink without trace. Good luck to her.
