Following last month's news that Michelle Ryan is to star alongside David Tennant in the Doctor Who Easter special, Lindsay Duncan has been revealed as the Time Lord's newest companion.

The Rome star - who can also be seen as former PM Margaret Thatcher in Margaret - will play Adelaide, said by the BBC to be "the Doctor's cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet". Duncan said, "I'm thrilled to be involved in Doctor Who. I've never done anything like this before."

The episode is the second of four specials starring David Tennant this year, before Matt Smith becomes the Eleventh Doctor in 2010. Filming begins in the spring.

There is no more compelling actress in Britain today. With her and Tennant together, we should have a real treat in store!

Lindsay Duncan has long been a talented actor. She will be as marvellous in Doctor Who as she has been in everything else. Great news.

Of course Lindsay Duncan will do well! In my opinion, she is one of Britain's best actresses. She was fantastic in the episodes of "Spooks" that she guest-starred in and I can only assume she'll do well in "Dr Who" as well.
