New Wallace and Gromit for Christmas

BBC1 has a great Christmas present for Wallace and Gromit fans - the premiere of a brand new adventure for the claymation duo.
A Matter of Loaf and Death sees Oscar-winning animator Nick Park back together with Bob Baker, who co-wrote earlier W&G yarns The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave. And after the rigours of making two big-screen animated features, Park is keen on a return to the original 30-minute format:
"I love making films for the cinema," he says, " but the production of Chicken Run and Curse of the Were-Rabbit were virtually back to back and each film took five years to complete. A Matter of Loaf and Death will be so much quicker to make. I'm delighted to be back into production and back with BBC1."
The new half-hour adventure finds Wallace and his trusty canine sidekick Gromit running a bakery, Top Bun. Business is booming, not least because the deadly "cereal killer" has been preying on the competition. But while Gromit worries that Top Bun may be the killer's next target, Wallace is a little preoccupied. He's fallen head over heels in love with Piella Bakewell, former star of the Bake-O-Lite bread commercials.
Can Gromit save his master from becoming the next baker to be butchered? And will he find time to pursue his own romantic liaison with Piella's gorgeous pet poodle Fluffles?
The inimitable Peter Sallis is the voice of Wallace, while Sally Lindsay (Corrie's former Rover's Return barmaid Shelley Unwin) is Piella Bakewell.

How rude of the BBC to allow the titles at the end of the Bafta Awards to run over Nick Park's speech for an award!

This is fantastic news! I can't wait for this programme. I will try to curtail indulging in the Chrismtas "spirit" so that I can enjoy this to the full and not fall asleep during it! Let's all get the Wensleydale in to enter in to the spirit of the prog. Very Merry Christmas to all at RT and fellow commentators!

Ah, now I can relax and know that even if the turkey goes up in flames, the tree collapses under the weight of the hanging chocolate coins, and the gifts are stolen, Wallace and Gromit will be there to ease the pain. All is right with the world. Pass the mince pies...
