Children's shows to be remade

Classic kids' programmes Rentaghost and Worzel Gummidge are on their way back. Production giant RDF has bought the rights to both, and thinks they can be "reworked for a modern audience". But in this day and age can Rentaghost still get away with a camp jester named Mr Claypole? And will today's youngsters find it any less disturbing than we did when Worzel pulls his own head off?

New arrivals at Emmerdale

Emmerdale turns posh this Christmas. Joining the cast as sexy, wealthy couple Natasha and Mark Wylde are former LA Law star Amanda Donohoe and Dynasty/The Colbys smoothie Maxwell Caulfield. They'll sashay into the village on Christmas Day. What will the Dingles make of them?

Woo Hoo....! I have been humming the Rentaghost theme for like 20 years! Can't wait to permanently infect my son with this classic! You can't compare Rentaghost to some of the tripe on children's TV these days!

Rentaghost COULD work, but it would need to be handled very carefully. As for Wurzel, no no no! Jon Pertwee was and always will be Wurzel and no one else will do.

If they remake "Rentaghost" I do hope they keep the same theme tune and the same sound effects for when the ghosts disappear/reappear!

...Rentaghost rocks, what childrens program today has a plot that is as free minded as this one was. For any seventies child, growing up on rentaghost and Worzel - coupled with fizzy drinks and sweets with more band substances and e-numbers you could shake a stick at and playgrounds you could hurt yourself in... It couldn't be more different today than the nanny state culture we live in now. I say bring it on!
