Big Brother: week one

Controversy 3/5

Alexandra's aggressively sweary reaction to Rebecca's doomed attempts to cook oven chips was relatively minor compared with the mass brawls of earlier series or Emily's ejection last year for using a racial slur. Then again, Ofcom did receive over 350 complaints about the incident, and Bullying UK (it's actually an anti-bullying charity rather than a social group for bovver boys, like it sounds) called on Channel 4 to punish Alexandra's behaviour.

On top of that, certain housemates - yes, so-called Mario, I'm looking at you - have been using Mikey's blindness as a political lever, which is pretty controversial too.

Task 3/5

The electric shock task was a great idea (yes, it would have been even better if the voltage had been set a bit higher and we'd actually got to see Alexandra's hair explode…). Clearly, a task that brought the housemates together would have been preferable, but in the absence of that we'll settle for one that sparks an argument (pardon the pun). With the luxury food budget at stake, Rex had a serious go at Alexandra for giving in to the pain too early. One week in and their relationship is already in a shocking state.

Romance 2/5

Alexandra features in this category too, after her flirtatious diary room session with Mohamed. Anyone who can make Alexandra giggle like a schoolgirl instead of screaming like a woman possessed (by the spirit of Gordon Ramsay) should get serious gratitude from his fellow housemates.

Earlier, Mario and Lisa had used the diary room as a love nest too. In a fit of champagne-fuelled hysterics, they daubed each other with chocolate sauce (maybe it will replace their regular fake tan). They're a rather disturbing couple but I suppose it was romantic for them…

The electric shock task was genious on Big Brother! Annoying that some people took off their suits!

All the BB housemates speak so unclearly that the producers should use sub-titles for every word
