Why I Love...Torchwood

Torchwood. It's an anagram of Doctor Who. But then so is Hot Rod Cow or Hot Cod Row. You can see why they chose Torchwood. (Imagine a drama about bovine drag racing, or fish arguing heatedly. Don't worry, the way things are going, they'll happen?probably on Five.)
So it's the X-rated, post-watershed Doctor Who spin-off; but beside Captain Jack, David Tennant's hand in a jar and some mumbo jumbo about time rifts, Torchwood is its own beast.
Yes, it's daft - gloriously daft - but it's also racy, glamorous, well acted, lovingly produced, cleverly scripted and flipping sexy. In Torchwood, people stand on big roofs, looking out over a cityscape. Why? Because they can. And because they look a damn sight hotter up there.

If Torchwood came as scratch 'n' sniff, all you'd smell would be hormones. Great, heaving wafts of testosterone and oestrogen. Everyone wants to do it with everyone else in Torchwood, and sometimes they do. Now that's naughty.
They've got big guns, a big car, a big office, big egos and larger sex drives. They can see into the past and the future. One of them made a rat explode. They keep an alien with a very unattractive head in a cell like the ones in The Silence of the Lambs; it once bit a bloke's head off - and they aren't even scared.
And they are so self-centred. In episode two, as the alien gas escapes that makes the girl want to have sex with any bloke in sight - shortly before she snogs Gwen Cooper - Captain Jack doles out gas masks to everyone in the team. Not to anyone else in the vicinity, you'll notice, or everyone in Cardiff. Quite literally: "I'm all right, Jack."
I bet if you were on fire in the street while the Torchwood totty walked past with a fire extinguisher, and there was a possible alien up the road eating a lollipop? All I'm saying is, don't put it to the test.
So, what's the clincher in Torchwood? What drags you in, bodily? Well, remember when Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) joined the team back in episode one?
Didn't you want in, too? Weren't you there, at the front of the class, lofting your arm desperately with a miniature crane, going, "Me, sir! Ooh, ooh, ooh, meeeeee!"

Well, you can't. You can look but you can't touch. And it will have to do.

I only watch the show for Gwen...and in the hope that one day there will be a good episode, preferably where Jack doesn't snog someone for no point whatsoever, other than to boost ratings.
I wish the god-like genius of Stephen Moffet would write an episode (writer of "blink", the best Doctor Who episode since the beginning of time), now THAT would be a good episode.

Battlestar Galactica? - Americans will never be able to make sci-fi as good as Britain does. Doctor Who is better than every American sci-fi show put together. However, Heroes wasn't that bad but 23 episodes is far too long and it got boring after 15 episodes.

Ianto is definitely the best character in a show in a long time. He has hardly any lines yet we still get the idea of his character. The lines he does get manage to come across as witty and not corny, he is a character that knows how to keep his head even when the darkest thoughts are running though his mind. Good acting radiates from Gareth David-Lloyd and I think he will be one to look out for in the future.
