I still can’t believe I’m actually taking part in Strictly Come Dancing! I’ve watched Strictly since it began and have always dreamed of being on that famous dance floor. I’m doing it because it’s the ultimate girlie glamour – who wouldn’t want to wear those beautiful dresses? My co-host on The One Show, Matt Baker, also really encouraged me to take part after he had such a fantastic experience last year. We don’t get to move around much on The One Show so it will be nice to stretch my legs.
I am absolutely petrified but excited about what the next three months has in store. I don’t have much dance experience, apart from a bit of ballet when I was a little girl.
My professional partner is James Jordan, which I’m over the moon about. We danced a lot together in the group dance on the launch show, which he said usually means we wouldn’t be partnered, but we were! I think we’re going to have a lot of fun together.
James is a fantastic teacher and I’m so impressed with how he and Pamela Stephenson did last year. However, he’s already taking the mickey out of me – claiming he can’t understand my Welsh accent, laughing at me trying to count and even labelling me Bambi. Good start!
I’m dreading the first live show – I can’t begin to tell you how nervous I was on the launch show, but at least the 14 of us were dancing together. Dancing live in front of the nation is already giving me sleepless nights. I really want to make James proud of me. He wants me to practise in between our training sessions, but I have no idea when I’ll find time!
In terms of the whole competition I just want to take it a week at a time and focus on trying to do a good job and get through to the next week. Ideally I’d love to make it to Wembley, which is the halfway milestone. As terrifying as it would be to dance in front of 6,500 people, I’m sure it would be an incredible experience. Hopefully I’ll be here next week – fingers crossed anyway!
