Coronation Street wild(ish) child Rosie Webster (played by Helen Flanagan) is to star in an internet spin-off of ITV's flagship soap, it was announced today.
The three-part series, entitled Just Rosie, will follow the fortunes of the eldest Webster daughter as she hits the streets of London in search of fame and fortune as a model.
Set for webcast in September, the online programme will be accompanied by the launch of a Rosie Webster Twitter account and an "exciting new website" that ITV promise will give us a "hilarious insight into the life of Corrie's answer to the girls of TOWIE".
During Rosie's time in the big smoke, viewers can expect to see the character utilise several ITV cross-promotional opportunities by having a scrap with another model live on the Lorraine show and appearing as a guest on Loose Women. It's fiction meets constructed reality meets fiction... I'm confused.
Of course, this won't be Corrie's first outing on the web. In January 2010, the three-part Gary's Army Diaries detailed a traumatic time on the front line in Afghanistan for Gary Windass. It was later screened in an extended version on ITV2. Earlier this year Jonathan Harvey wrote ten three-minute episodes of Ken and Deirdre's Bedtime Stories, showing the famous soap couple chatting in the sack.
