An Asian family hunts for a runaway daughter in rural Yorkshire in this dark thriller from director brothers Daniel and Matthew Wolfe. Laila (promising newcomer Sabeena Jameen Ahmed) is a free spirit, while her partner Aaron (Neds star Conor McCarron) is more circumspect, understandable given that Laila's domineering father not only has friends and relatives out searching for the couple, but the men have also hired two white thugs (racist bully Barry Nunney, nervy drug addict Gary Lewis) to collar the lovers. Shot by ace cameraman Robbie Ryan, the Wolfes' first feature works first and foremost as a nightmarish visual experience, the darkness of the moors at night suggesting the depths of inhumanity as the pursuit unfolds. However, the hot-button issue of "honour killing" is rather more complex than the film's bare-bones storytelling allows, so we're left with the suspicion there's rather less here than meets the eye.
